The Palinology Symposium is now in full swing and the mainstream media’s aberrant preoccupation with the former Alaska governor has reached insalubrious proportions.  The Associated Press deployed eleven  reporters to fact check Palin’s book, Going Rogue.  Fact checking, in this context is euphemistic, at best.  It’s the same sort of “fact checking” Hillary Clinton used to dictate be done to Bill’s female victims and other enemies of the Clinton state. 

“11 AP reporters dedicating time and resources to tearing up the book, instead of using the time and resources to ‘fact check’ what’s going on with Sheik Mohammed’s trial, Pelosi’s health care takeover costs, Hasan’s associations, etc. Amazing.” 

The Palin loathing media is fervently trying to engineer a cult following for the former governor by fixing tirelessly on her good looks and ability to draw animated crowds about which Obama can now only reminisce .

To focus on her actual record as governor would not further the Left’s mission because  she was good at it.  Not only did she create a large budget surplus;  she also took a crowbar to a thoroughly corrupt old boys’ network.  She stood up against her own party to do it.  This should serve her well if she runs for president in 2012.  She can run as the Dismantlement Candidate.  A vote for Palin is a vote to undo all of the crap the Left rammed down our throats for four years. 

“Sarah was seriously angry and not afraid of anyone there. That played wonderfully well with Alaskans. We are sick of all of our corruption watched her successful battles against a seriously entrenched corrupt government before she took on the legislature. The whole legislature was angry back at her and still are, but also afraid of her because of her popularity.”

  Would that our current commander in chief have such intestinal fortitude.

There will be no cult of Palinism.  Unlike Obamanutz, conservatives are a tough assortment to lead.  Conservatives value personal liberty above all else.

This is why cults are invariably dominated by left wing ideologues.  Hitler’s Nazi Party was socialist, although liberals to this day insist on embarrassing themselves by calling Hitler a “right winger.”  Fascism is the exclusive domain of the Left, explained brilliantly by Jonah Goldberg in Liberal Fascism: The Secret History of the American Left from Mussolini to the Politics of Meaning.

That is not to say an ill-intentioned power-grabber couldn’t identify himself as a conservative, but conservative ideology cannot, by definition, become a cult.  The foundation of conservatism is individual liberty, the antithesis of the mass movement.  Cultism requires the surrender of free will in service of the cult leader.  This is why they often end so badly.

Nothing Palin has said or done to date suggests that she is hoping to inspire a mass movement to further her own power.  Instead, it’s the media mobilizing its resources and using its mangled perception of reality to create a cult of anti-Palinism.  The Left may have some trouble with this; throughout history, at the center of every cult is the charismatic cult leader.  In fact, the charismatic leader defines the cult.  Charismatic leadership is hard to find at MSNBC.
