Beauty Queen Vindicated: We Really Don’t Have Maps

I personally believe that US Americans are unable to do so because some people out there in our nation don’t have maps . . .

- Caitlin Upton, Miss Teen South Carolina

Young Caitlin was ridiculed mercilessly for her  entirely sensible concern about the Great American Map Shortage.  We now feel the repercussions of our failure to take her seriously.

Milwaukee County Board of Supervisors member, Peggy West poignantly directed our attention to the plight of the maplesss in America during debate over a measure that would call for the county to boycott Arizona as a protest against Arizona’s immigration law:

If this was Texas, which is a state that is directly on the border with Mexico, and they were calling for a measure like this saying that they had a major issue with undocumented people flooding their borders, I would have to look twice at this.  But this is a state that is a ways removed from the border.

America owes Caitlin an apology.
